The donation of the Soure Castle

The important military role played by the Templars in the Reconquest was rewarded with the donation of vast territories where they promoted settlement and built several fortresses.

In 1128, Teresa donated the territory of Soure, as well as the land between Coimbra and Leiria, where the Templars founded castles. In Soure Castle, they established their first headquarters, but with the advances of the Reconquista they transferred their mother house to Tomar, until the date of its extinction, in 1312.
