Mother Church of Nossa Senhora da Graça das Areias
The Mother Church of Nossa Senhora da Graça das Areias was only built in the 15th century, but since it stands on the territory that once belonged to the Order of the Temple it is, therefore, of interest from a historical point of view, but also architecturally, since it dates from the same period as the Convent of Christ. In addition, it had requalification works in 1548, by the hand of João de Castilho, the architect responsible for the Convent's contract.
The main façade of this Gothic temple consists of a bell tower with 3 registers, the lower one being torn by a galilee with 3 round arches resting on Ionic columns. Inside, admire the embossed decoration with the Cross of Christ and the Portugal’s coat of arms on the keys to the vault, on the 17th-century tile panels, on the Baroque gilded altarpiece and on the 16th-century Mannerist stone altarpiece.
