Pias Pillory

The Pias Pillory, located next to the Pias Church, is a small classic building with a modest design. It has classic features, consisting of a base, a shaft and a capital.

Despite its modest layout and only having been built in the 17th century, this pillory is testimony to the ancient autonomy of the region. The region of Pias was conquered from the Muslims by King Afonso Henriques in 1146, who granted it to the Order of the Temple. It was the Order of the Temple that granted it a charter for the first time, which shows the importance of Pias concerning the administration and management of the territory, during the reconquest period.
