Guided Tour: Pentagram

This guided tour has been designed to integrate the five points of a star that illuminates the Centre of Portugal and from here radiates out to the world. A permanent light that brings together Tomar of the Templars and the Order of Christ (starting point); Almourol Castle; Dornes; Monastery of Alcobaça and Monastery of Batalha.

Sandra Henriques Costa is a local guide for over a decade. Sandra was born in Tomar and dedicated a significant part of her life working in this specific heritage.

She follows the timeline (focussed between the 12th and 17th centuries) as a method that helps to understand the foundations of architecture, other arts, the purposes of buildings and the ambitions that marked the nearby and wider territories and their communities.

The guided tours are flexible, i.e. visitors can choose to complete the Pentagram (5 monuments) in two days, or they can take a guided tour of a single monument at a time. As a native of this region, Sandra Henriques Costa inevitably transfers this sense of belonging into her speech.
